To ensure business compliance with the Price Control Act, Chapter 142, and the
Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151, the Department of Economic Planning and
Statistics (DEPS) through the Department of Consumer Affairs, together with the
Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE)
under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, recently conducted a joint operation at
several business premises in the Belait District.
The joint operation involved inspections of several business premises in Kampung
Pandan and Mumong, resulting in two (2) offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter
142 and its regulations. Consequently, two (2) Warning Notices were issued to one (1)
business premise for selling price-controlled items, namely cooking oil, above the set
maximum prices and for failing to display prices on some of the items sold within the
premise.
Meanwhile, the SDT Unit found eighteen (18) units of weighing and measuring
machines used for trading purposes, which were found to be valid, accurate, and in
compliance with the Weights and Measures Act, Chapter 151.
Businesses are reminded to display prices clearly and accurately and to ensure that
price-controlled items are not sold above the set maximum prices. Additionally,
businesses are reminded to clearly display the net weight of packaged goods and
ensure that all weight and measure instruments used are valid and registered with the
SDT Unit.
