22 September 2025

The Inaugural Joint Committee Ministerial Meeting (JCMM) between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore was convened on 15th September 2025 in Singapore. The Meeting was co-chaired by His Excellency Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, and His Excellency Dr. Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

The Meeting served as a platform to elevate strategic cooperation, strengthen institutional coordination, and drive impactful outcomes. It highlighted the progress made by the Joint Committee, led by the Working Groups in the key priority sectors, namely food security; supply of medical products; low carbon energy; and carbon markets, carbon capture and storage, carbon credits, and green economy, as established under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Strengthening Trade and Investment Cooperation in Food and Medical Products, and the MOU on Cooperation in Energy and Green Economy.

In his opening remarks, His Excellency Dato Seri Setia Dr. Amin Liew bin Abdullah highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between the two countries by leveraging each other’s advantages, particularly in navigating the uncertainties of the global economic landscape. His Excellency also noted that platforms such as APEC, ASEAN and the newly established Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-P) provide avenues for continued discussions on emerging issues affecting member economies, including supply chains. With this collaboration, both countries can review progress and jointly set new directions for senior officials to further enhance bilateral and regional cooperation.

At the Meeting, His Excellencies, among others, commended the steady progress achieved by the Working Groups, and expressed strong support to extend cooperation beyond the scope of the existing MOUs on food and energy, highlighting human capital development and tourism as potential areas for future collaboration. The Meeting was also attended by Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy, Trade and Industry) as well as officers from the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division, Ministry of Finance and Economy.
